The Future of Fashion

Updated: Mar 23, 2025

The beginning of the 2023 took us by surprise for many reasons! This was the first year (in the last few years) that I did not find it necessary to “need a restart” of the beginning of the year. Everything seemed to flow in all aspects of my life: love, health, career.

On the fashion scene, there have been a number of unexpected changes that have impacted this community. The first notable change, Law Roach retiring from a successful career as a Stylist and multi-hyphenated creative. Thee Law Roach has developed the image of some of our favorite celebrities, most notably Zendaya, Céline Dion, and Anne Hathaway. In March 2023, The Cut sat down with Law to set the facts straight: he is (in fact) retiring from celebrity styling. However, we have been blessed to see Law grace a few red carpets with long-time client, Zendaya. So, there may be some exceptions to retirement from celebrity styling!

Shortly after Law Roach’s announcement, streetwear brand TLZ L'Femme announced that the brand would no longer design women’s streetwear in the same way its previously been designed and teased us with an adjacent brand featuring a new venture, maybe Tuh by TLZLF? I'll keep my eyes open for the tea on this new brand!

Not to mention, I am still recovering from Virgil Abloh’s untimely death in 2021 (send help!). The torch has been passed for both Off-White and Louis Vuitton: the former is in the very capable and creative hands of New Art x Image Director, Ib Kamara, who inherited Off-White in 2021 and debuted his Afrofuturism-inspired Fall/Winter 2023 collection on March 2 during Paris Fashion Week. As for Louis Vuitton’s creative direction, Pharrell Williams gained our attention as he showcased his Spring / Summer 2024 vision for the brand during the Paris Fashion Week; in Pharrell, we trust!

In the UK, Edward Enniful is stepping down from British Vogue after a successful career as Editor-in-Chief! I’ve been reading his book titled, “A Visible Man,” and learned that Enniful started as a fashion director of i-D Magazine at only age 19, where he worked for nearly two decades. His other notable work includes being creative and fashion director of W Magazine, and producing beautiful imagery work for Italian and American Vogue. Enniful’s next role will be as a global creative and cultural adviser at Vogue and editorial adviser at British Vogue, to have the flexibility to take on other creative opportunities will still being able to contribute to Vogue.

Fashion — as we’ve experienced it over the last decade or so — is changing. And, as with anything in life, we must evolve with the change so that we are not left behind! There are exciting, very new moments that we can anticipate from the fashion scene. Are you ready? If not, it’s time to get ready!
